Welcome to the home of the largest Pro/Am road stage race east of the Mississippi!
September 5, 2011
You can see today's stage results here. GC results here. Sprint results here. K/QoM results here.
We were very disapointed to have to cancel a portion of Stage 4. The conditions were unsafe and did not improve further during the afternoon. We had nearly 2 inches of rain in Burlington in a short period of time. Here is a photo of the 40+ field testing out the course prior to the cancelation - note the wake! We will be posting an update in the coming days about the race.
All the prize money not awarded for the Stage 4 crit will be given to local flood relief. Bringing the total donation made by the stage race and racers to over $5000! The local community that hosts the event really appreciates this support at this time of need.
We are working to get all the uncollected prize money out to you this week. There was way more than normal as a result of the cancellation so it will take 7-10 days to complete. Please be patient.

Now onto how to get here for the race. First off DO NOT rely blindly on your GPS to make your way to the Mad River Valley. If you do there is a high likelihood that you will find yourself on closed roads with a long backtrack. Some main state roads can be bypassed on back gravel roads, but that will be slow and you will get lost and eaten by bears unless a local is guiding you. Please follow these instructions and you will arrive here fine.
From the North: Take Interstate 89 to Exit 10 in Waterbury. Take a right off the exit. At the T intersection take a left onto Rt. 100 south. You will pass through 2 traffic lights. You will also be passing through Waterbury lower village that was flooded. Please be respectful of the extensive volunteer cleanup effort and drive slowly. Once out of the Village you will turn right onto Rt. 100 south at Snowfire Auto. Follow Rt. 100 south to Waitsfield. Rt. 100 south is now open to Warren where you can turn right on the Sugarbush Access Road and travel 2.5 miles to the Bridges Resort on the left.
From the South: Take either Interstate 91 or 89 to Exit 9 in Middlesex. Turn left at the end of the exit ramp. At the stop sign turn right towards Waterbury. Do not follow the signs to Rt. 100B because the road is closed and is no longer connected to Rt. 100. Travel Rt. 2 west 4 miles and turn left onto Rt. 100 south to Waitsfield. Rt. 100 south is now open to Warren where you can turn right on the Sugarbush Access Road and travel 2.5 miles to the Bridges Resort on the left.
From the East: Be sure to get on Interstate 89 and follow the instructions above.
From the West: Rt. 17 over the App Gap is open but there could be a short detour near the bottom. Once in over summit and down the other side take a right onto German Flats Road to the stop sign at the end. Turn right and look for the Bridges Resort on the Left. You could also get to Interstate 89 and follow the directions above.
If none of these directions seem to work for you or you plan to freestyle your way here please check http://www.511vt.com/ for updated information.
Here is our GC leader's jersey which should be arriving tomorrow.

All of our GC winners take home the immense pride of winning as well as the coveted yellow leader's jersey and some cash. But that is not all, they will also take home a custom made Vermont Teddy Bear. Here he is relaxing out on the hamock getting ready for September 5th and his big day on the GMSR podium!

An updated cue sheet for the Mad River Road Race has been posted for those of you coming to pre-ride the courses.
Are you a sprinter? Here is your jersey! The winner will also receive a bottle of ultra premium Vermont Gold vodka (must be at least 21 years old - sorry Jr.s). So all you sprinters should stay thirsty.

Here is our cool K/QoM leader's jersey for 2011 made by Champion System:

For 2011 the GMSR is partnering with several local riders and cancer survivors in support of the LiveStrong Foundation and its fight against cancer. It is unfortunate but true that nearly all of us have been affected by cancer in our lives. Partnering with LiveStrong provides an opportunity to do what you love while supporting this very worthwhile cause. Those racers who donate will receive special support services during the race provided by LiveStrong. Racers donating a minimum of $50 qualify for food and hydration support on the course Saturday and Sunday. Racers donating $150 are eligible for food/hydration support plus a shuttle ride from the bottom of App Gap immediately after the Sunday finish back up to the start area - a significant uphill climb (sign up and qualify early as shuttle space may be limited). Ask friends and family to sponsor your ride (such as $1 or more per mile). You can create your own personal website page for direct online donations. Click HERE and join the Livestrong team! 100% of all funds raised go to fight cancer.
Register now to compete in one of the top Pro/Am stage races in North America.
If you would like to see a little bit about what the race is like you can check out photographs from the 2010 race here.

The fencing was moved prior to the Men's 2 race which allowed some racers to shorten this turn by jumping the curb and riding the sidewalk. This was corrected prior to the next race.
